TMS treatment - Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a safe and effective treatment for depression and other mental health disorders.

What is TMS?

TMS is a non-invasive method of brain stimulation that uses magnetic technology taregeted towards the area of the brain involved in mood regulation.

rTMS is FDA-approved for the treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. TMS has been demonstrated to be safe, well tolerated, and more effective than medications. It does not involve surgery. During treatment, patients remain awake and alert. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.

Treatments are typically five days per week on weekdays and last about 15 minutes. A course of TMS treatments is usually between 6-9 weeks, depending on the individual’s condition and response.

On October 25, 2019, TMS Treatment was featured on CBS This Morning as a part of their special, "Stop the Stigma: A Conversation About Mental Health." Reporter Jamie Yuccas takes a look at how this alternative treatment is changing lives. Click below to play the video or open in YouTube.

“Nothing short of miraculous and life changing.”
"My TMS experience was nothing short of miraculous and life changing. I took medication for depression and anxiety for over 20 years and developed medication resistant depression after the birth of my daughter several years ago. I tried multiple medications, increased doses and ultimately added a third medication without a significant change in my baseline. I felt so bad and wasn't the mother, daughter, sister and friend I wanted to be. I needed something to change if I was going to survive. I no longer had any hope and couldn't see a future. Dr. Asper told me about TMS, and I readily signed up after doing some research. I had nothing to lose but a little bit of my time and the copay.
Within days of starting TMS, I began to feel better. By the time I finished the treatment series, I smiled and meant it, experienced a genuine happiness that I couldn't remember feeling before and finally felt the once insurmountable weight was lifted from my shoulders. People kept noting the changes in my energy, sense of humor and overall mood, questioning why I was so happy. Friends and family immediately noticed the changes in my voice, interactions and the way I carried myself. I no longer isolated, avoided phone calls and started attending functions without feeling totally exhausted at the end.
I completed my TMS treatments almost seven months ago. Words cannot accurately describe how much my life has changed and improved. For the first time in my adult life, I don't take any psychiatric medications. I lost 70 pounds. I'm a totally different mom, daughter, sister and friend, and I feel good about myself and where I am in my life. I can actually say that I am living now and not just surviving. Every day isn't perfect, but each day is a blessing and miracle. I have a new tool in my arsenal if my depression returns. TMS gave me back my life, a life I never thought possible. I hope others will learn about and consider this treatment option if they are experiencing a similar level of depression. I'm living proof things can get better and that there is still hope, even after losing all hope."

“The TMS treatments have really helped ease the depression”

After 36 sessions of TMS I can defiantly tell there has been a change in number of incidents of severe depression I'm experiencing every month and their severity. I'm a military veteran suffering from PTSD and I also have debilitating chronic tinnitus. Between the PTSD and anxiety/ depression caused by the tinnitus my mental health was being dragged through the mud. The TMS treatments have really helped ease the depression and the stress it was causing in my life. I was also able to back off the medications that were causing their own problems and side effects. I'm grateful to the TCBH Team and all they've done for me, outstanding service every visit.
